Do you run a mobile beauty salon? Do you provide beauty or hair services, make-up or counseling to clients in their homes? Do you do makeup at events and festivals? Like traditional salons, you need to get the word out about your services. How? We've got 3 basic tips on how to promote your at-home salon using social media.

How to proceed so that the social network is not a useless or hated tool, but an important helper and source of income?

Enhance your social media profiles

Do you have a Facebook profile? And how do you work with it? If you post once in a while that you exist and politely ask your few fans to contact you, you probably won't make a big dent in the world (either the real one or the one on social media).

In addition to Facebook, it's important to have a profile on other popular social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. These platforms are ideal for visually-oriented industries like hairdressing. On Instagram, you can share beautiful images of your hairstyles and colors, creating visual appeal for your brand. TikTok then offers a unique opportunity to showcase yourself through short, fun videos. This platform is great for reaching a younger audience and for creating trends.

How do you do it?

For starters, spruce up your profile. Add your contact details, who you are, what you do and what you specialise in. This is mainly done in the Information or Bio section, which you can find in the header of your profile. Don't forget to emphasize that you run a salon, not a traditional one, but a mobile one, and write a few benefits that this type of service brings to your fans.

Also, match your profile photo with your branding, and if the page or profile name doesn't match what you do or doesn't say anything, think about changing it. It should make it clear at a glance what your service is about.

Know your target group

The moment you set up your social media profiles, you (like many others) may have been cheering the fact that orders were just going to pour in. And you may have found out very soon that the reality is different and social networks don't generate anything on their own.
You have to work with them and offer your fans something in return for their favour. What? For example, content that they want to consume. The creation of a classic image of your typical customer (the so-called persona) will help in identifying what this content is.

How do you do it?

Before you start, sit down and write down everything you know about your clients on paper. Who are your clients? Where do they live? Where do they most often work? Do they have children? Why do they use a mobile salon rather than a traditional, brick-and-mortar location? From the information available to you, create a picture of your typical client(s). Congratulations, you have a persona. Then, whenever you create a post, think about whether it has a chance to engage your persona.

Create a simple content plan and publish

Being spontaneous is fine, but only sometimes. In the case of social media, it's equally worth sticking to a set plan. This eliminates those times when you're sitting at your computer, wondering what to post today.

How do you do it?

Your posts should entertain, enlighten or sell. Or respond to current events. In the case of a mobile salon, they should also explain its advantages over a traditional brick-and-mortar location. Posting three times a day doesn't make sense (most of the time), on the other hand once a month is not enough. Optimally, focus on two posts per week and promote the successful ones (even if only by a small amount). Also, keep in mind that the algorithm of all social media platforms keeps changing on almost a weekly basis, so you may see your success fluctuate.

Instagram stories and reels can be a great way to showcase processes, news, or even educational content. On TikTok, for example, you can create before and after effect videos, hair care advice, or engage with popular challenges and trends that are relevant to your industry.

On all platforms, be sure to use relevant hashtags and geotagging to increase the visibility of your posts. Interacting with your followers, replying to comments, and sharing your clients' content will also significantly help with building a community around your salon.

And don't forget to mention the benefits of having a mobile salon for your clients. What services differentiate you from competing salons? Will you save time for busy people? Will you come home to immobile clients? Do you visit moms with young children who would otherwise have to take their offspring with them?

If you use an online booking system, write it down. Clients can then book appointments with you through your networks. Just share the booking website or booking link with your posts, which will save your followers time searching your site.
